What's Up With That?

Have you ever seen or heard something and thought................."What's up with that?"

Yeah, me too.  So let's talk about it!  Here's mine for the week......

I had to go to the ER this week for some stomach issues...waste of time but better safe then sorry, right?  Anyway, ER waiting rooms are probably one of THE best places to people watch.  I'm guilty of it... aren't we all?  So, this is what I dont' get......  This lady and her daughter roll into the ER and they are both wearing dirty clothes.  Now, I don't mean wrinkly and I don't mean one ketchup stain from a packet fiasco at lunch.  I'm talking about never been washed shirts and pants, dirt stains, food stains and piece of pink chewy candy stuck to the pant leg of the woman's dirty los pantalones. Now, my first reaction was, "holy cow, are they ok?  They are in the ER, maybe something bad happened and they had to dig someone out of a well or something".... I didn't want to jump to conclusions. I also thought to myself, "Hmmm... maybe they are homeless and they don't have a washer to wash their clothes or something??"   It's a likely thought in this economy.  So, they check-in to the ER, the daughter, who's about 13 or 14, has something wrong with her arm.... so there goes my digging-someone-out-of-a-well theory!  They sit down beside me and I'm thinking wow I hope she's ok and I hope they can afford to be here because Lord knows I can barely afford to be in the ER right now.  I start thinking about how lucky I am to have my family and all the support they give me.  I start feeling really sorry for these people sitting next to me.

And then.........

The mom, dirty fingernails and all, reaches into her purse and pulls out a... wait for it....  an iPad!!!!!

HOLD UP.  You can't afford to take care of yourself, wear clean clothes or give your daughter clean clothes or at least make sure that when you leave your house you are somewhat presentable, BUT, you can afford an iPad??????  WHAT'S UP WITH THAT?!

Now, this takes me back to the girls I see with their nails did, with a fresh french manicure or some fancy design at the store and then you see them paying for their food with WIC.  REALLY?!  How did you pay for your nails?!?!  You're on Welfare?!  Is there a nail salon I don't know about where they give people free manicures and pedicures????   WHAT'S UP WITH THAT?!

Bottom line: If you can't afford to pay your bills, feed and clothe your kids or take a bath, then you should probably save your money instead of buying iPads and fake nails.  WORD.

Top 6 Products I Love RIGHT NOW!

So, I have people who ask me all the time what products I use so I decided to write about my favorite products.  I will probably do a list every couple weeks or maybe just once a month... my favs change all the time!   This months favorites are all products I use regularly and will continue to use them no matter the season or trend... they are classic products that have no expiration date on being amazing!  Take a look....

#1  Rimmel London Lasting Finish Pro Enamel in Steel Grey
preview      ~I've gotten sooo many compliments on this nail polish that it's become my go to color.  It's a grey color that has lavender undertones.  It goes with anything that you're wearing so it doesn't clash and it's a bit more trendy then just wearing clear or pale color polish.  I've been stopped in stores and even in the Starbucks drive-thru because they wanted to know what color my polish was!  Not only is it a pretty color, it lasts for a crazy long time without needing touch ups!  I polished my nails 8 days ago (2 coats) and they are still going strong!  HB's TIP: Even if you aren't wearing polish, swipe your nails with Nail Polish Remover to get rid of any oil on your nails.  This will help your polish "lock" on to your nails and it will last much longer!

Shimmer Strips Custom Eye Enhancing Gel CreamLiner#2 Physicians Formula Shimmer Strips Custom Eye Enhancing Gel Cream Liner for Brown Eyes
~ This liner is specifically designed for different eye colors.  I have brown eyes so I went with the custom eyeliner for brown eyes.  The gel slides on smoothly, no clumps and it comes with an application brush in case you don't already have one!  The little pods of eyeliner (3) are stackable and they just pop right off!  The color for enhancing brown eyes are a deep brown, black and purple liner.  I've always told people with brown eyes to try a purple liner with purple shadow, it really makes brown eyes pop!  So try it!!

CVS Purifying Mint Masque
#3 CVS Purifying Mint Masque
~ I tried this last night actually and it's now my favorite mask!  It's supposed to draw out any impurities in your skin, shrink your pores and sooth your skin.  It smells great and goes on easy because it's super thick. You put it on, wait for 18 minutes and wash it off with warm water and a washcloth.  You can immediately tell a difference in the way your skin looks and feels. HB's TIP: I recommend putting moisturizer on right after because masks can dry your skin a bit. **If you go to Walgreens, Queen Helene's Mint Masque has the same exact ingredients as CVS's product... just in case you don't have a CVS near you!

#4 Neutrogena MoistureShine Gloss in Natural Boost 200
~I LOVE LOVE LOVE this lip gloss!  It's a nude color, which I love!  You can wear it with anything.  It completes any look.  It's got a little shimmer in it which is pretty but not overbearing.  HB's TIP: I always put chap stick or a clear gloss on my lips first before applying this or any lip color.  It helps your gloss or lipstick glide on easily and it prevents your lips from getting stained by lip color!

#5 Mary Kay Mineral Powder Foundation
~Yes, I'm a Mary Kay consultant. Yes, I love most of their products.  This one is, BY FAR, the best product they have and I will recommend it to ANYONE!  I hate wearing liquid foundation... I hate the way it feels on my face and I always end up not blending it in enough and well... you know I'm sure!  This mineral foundation is lightweight and absolutely impossible to mess up!  It comes with a professional mineral powder brush FOR FREE, just dip the brush in the powder, tap the excess off and swirl the powder over your face starting for the inside working your way out to your hairline.  You are left with a flawless face that looks natural and feels like you aren't wearing any makeup!  HB's TIP: Before I apply this I use a tinted moisturizer to even my skin tone a little bit... if your face gets red in places I highly suggest you do that first before applying the powder so your face looks fresh and not dry and cakey.

Garnier Fructis Fortifying Deep Conditioner Masque 300ml/10.2oz#6 Garnier Fructis Fortifying Deep Conditioner Masque
~If you have hair that gets dry often, if you color your hair or if you have curly hair, you NEED to use this!  I have all 3 of those "conditions" and I use this EVERY time I shampoo my hair.  I'm left with shiny, manageable hair that looks and feels healthy.  Apply it to the ends of your hair up to your neck... DO NOT PUT THIS ON YOUR SCALP.  It will weigh your hair down and we don't want that!!  Leave it on for 3 minutes and rinse it out... Done!  HB's TIP: It's not about your shampoo, it's all about your conditioner!  Buy a cheap shampoo that will clean your hair and then spend your money on a good conditioner.  Your conditioner is just that... a CONDITIONER!  It's THE most important thing you put on your hair.

OK.... so there you have it! My top 6 favs of March and ALL YEAR ROUND!

Tonight's The Night!

That's right... It's The Bachelor Finale Night!  I can hardly contain myself.  I think this has been the BEST season yet!  I'm hoping and praying that Brad picks Emily... If he doesn't, he's crazy.  Chantal isn't bad, but she's WAY too emotional for any guy to handle.  Plus, I wouldn't be surprised if she announced to him that she was pregnant with another guys baby... she's definitely acting and looking like she's 5 months pregnant!

I've often wondered why I'm so obsessed with The Bachelor.  It's not just me, of course... almost all of my friends as well as millions of women around the U.S. are addicted to the show.  Many say it's to fill the "drama" void in their lives... that can't be true. I think most girls watch because they want to believe in love... and they want to see girls act ridiculous to one another.  Whatever it is... If watching it is wrong, I don't wanna be right.

I'm also excited to find out who will be the next Bachelorette... I'm hoping they announce that tonight on After the Final Rose.  I think Michelle Money would be a hilarious bachelorette... but my money is on Chantal... or Emily, if she gets booted.

Who do you think Brad will pick?  Who do you think will be the next Bachelorette?

19 to 21... Still Perfection

Adele has always been one of my favorite artists.  Her debut album, 19, is one of my favorite albums of all time and it went triple platinum in the U.K.  Her new album, 21, is nothing short of unbelievable.  Like the title, her writing and style has matured.  21 sold over 350,000 copies in the first week here in the U.S.

I love Adele so much because of her amazing writing.  Yes, her voice is stunning, unlike anyone in my generation (Gen Y).  But it's her writing that is genius.  It's relateable, it's soft and mellow, it's dark, it's gritty, it's raw and it's beautiful.  I chose to showcase the song, "Someone Like You."  I think we all that someone in our lives... that someone who "got away."  Enjoy!!

Kadinsky - Abstract Art

One of my favorite paintings is by Wassily Kadinsky.  It's an abstract painting.  Very colorful, circles inside squares.  I have this picture framed in my room.  It's quite small but I love having it around.  It makes me happy when I look at it.  Now that I think about it, I should bring it to work... Anyway, I painted a picture like this in 2nd grade.  It was abstract (of course I didn't know it at the time) and there were shapes and colors all over the place.  It actually got chosen by the Columbus Arts Council to showcase at the Arts Festival here in Columbus.  I should find it and take a photo of it... for another time.

Enjoy this painting... maybe it will make you happy too.

Stay or Go?

The Ombre hair color has been a popular discussion lately. It's a natural take on letting your roots show. It looks like your hair is fading from dark to light. Is it a passing fad or is it a go to hair color?  Personally, I love this hair trend.  I think, when done right, it can look very natural without looking like you just walked off the set of My Name is Earl.  I've watched many a video on how to do it yourself at home but I haven't gotten the guts to actually do it.  I wanted my hair girl, Sara, to do it for me at the salon but it got lost in translation.  What do you think about this hair color choice?

Here to stay?  Or Go Away?

You look like a million bucks!!

Just read this on yahoo...

5-ways-to-dress-like-you-have-money-even-if-you-dont

Pretty good article.  I'm surprised they didn't add anything about the perfect pair of jeans... dark wash, please.  A nice set of pearls doesn't hurt either!  I think the most important thing is to be confident in your style choice.  My style changes from day to day, honestly.  It depends a lot on my mood.  A smile goes along way too....  =)

And there ain't nothing wrong with a cute dress, black tights and tall boots! Just like my friend Heather is wearing in this picture!  These tights are pretty cool too... adds a nice touch without overdoing it!  Love it!

Say Ahhhhh....

My new music obsession....

The Paper Tongues.

Actually, I've been obsessed with them for a few months now since I got to meet them and hear them sing live... like 3 feet away from me.  It was great.  They are southern boys from North Carolina and you can tell when they talk... so sweet.  Their lead singer, Aswan North, has an amazing & unique voice that makes them sound different.  They have a cool, hip vibe with rock undertones and it works.  Their music has a message and that's what's important.  Whether it's a song about strength for a nation or love between two people... they have mad writing skills.  American Idol is using one of their songs, "Higher" in there video cuts... They also have their own Pandora Channel...*I'm listening to it right now*

Check these guys out... you'll thank me later.  http://site.papertongues.com/home
